My Experience In A Drug Rehab Center

How Drug Rehab Helped My Life

A drug rehab center is a health facility that is tailored to help drug addicts drop their bad habits or vices in order to become better people in the society. My story begins in 2005 after joining one of the local universities in my country. Since childhood I was very interested in geography so after my high school studies I decided to take a degree course in Environmental Science. My main objective at that time was to become a professional environmentalist who would be on the front line fighting for the well being of the environment through sustainable use of our natural resources. I was sixteen years old when I enrolled.

The first one year was full of activities and excitement as each student tried to fit in the college life. I believe that is where my priorities and goals in life changed. I met a guy by the name of Antony who was also taking an environmental science course in the same university. Unlike me, he had been brought up in the city so he was more outgoing and adventurous. One day as we were watching a movie in his room, he lit something that looked like a cigarette but the smell was distinctive. At first I did not believe it until I asked him and he confirmed my worst fears. My best friend was a marijuana smoker!!!

I tried to talk him out of this habit by explaining the harmful benefits that this drug causes to ones mental and healthy condition in vain. The second day he and his friends assembled in his room to watch one of our favorite movies and the same thing happened but this time it was more intense. We were like four guys in the room; Antony produced three rolls of marijuana and a bottle of whisky. The room turned into a party house which attracted some of our neighbors. I tried to leave but they convinced me to stay.

They kept on insisting I try this new way of enjoying life but I resisted. Unfortunately, my will willpower weakened as time went by and so I decided to take just one puff to convince them I deserved to be in the group. From that day, I started hanging out with them every day. We used to smoke more than six rolls of bhang in one sitting and drunk a lot of alcohol. After two months, I realized that my habits had totally changed. I stopped attending classes since most of the time I was nursing a hangover. At first it seemed fun and exciting until I woke up from this dream. We did our final semester exam and I failed completely. One of the lectures called me in his office to discuss my results.

I Needed a Drug Rehab Center

I explained to him why I failed my exams and promised to change. Of course I lied about my habits since it is illegal to smoke bhang in our country. However, I decided to visit one of the school counselors for advice. After listening to my story, she referred me to one of the local drug rehab center where I was admitted for three months. At first, my parents were so mad at me because they never thought I would ever smoke leave alone drink alcohol.

During my stay in this treatment center, I interacted with various medical practitioners in the facility. One of the treatment methods that they used to help us fight our addictions was physical exercises. Every day we would spend some time playing basketball and working out in the gym. This helped to not only relieve stress but also fight our craving for drugs.

There were times we would be given medications such as vitamin supplements to help us regain our health. In the evening, we would assemble in one of the conference rooms in the facility to discuss various life issues. In the process, we would be counseled and advised on how to live life without relying on drugs. I believe this treatment option really helped me resist the craving for marijuana and alcohol.

After three months, I came out of the drug rehab center a changed person ready to live a healthy and productive lifestyle. I went back to school and graduated with first class honors in Environmental Science. As we speak, I have established my own consultant firm and a small family business.

My experience is a true indication that drug rehab center can really work and can help you become a better person in society.
